wearing uniforms or not?

I support the ideas of wearing uniforms and following the dress code. There are a spectrum of advantages for these standards. Firstly, the school can create a good atmosphere for learning. Also, students might view uniforms as work clothes and take the school more seriously.

For schools, wearing uniforms not only instills unity and pride but promotes school spirit and good self-image. What’s more important, uniforms make students look equal which break down the barriers between different socioeconomic groups. Furthermore, students’ wearing with low- fashion sense are usually mocked at by the fashionable ones, so I think that wearing uniforms can decline the possibilities of bullies. Besides, it probably solves gang problems because students will behave more cautiously wearing school uniforms.

From the perspectives of students, some are proud of their schools and some gain a sense of security by wearing uniforms. The most crucial reason to wear uniforms is that it is economical. For girls who often lots of time deciding what to wear and parents who worried about the expense of clothes, it is a good choice.

In the early times of America, people thought that wearing uniforms violated the spirit of freedom. However, due to economic depression, parents stand out and support the ideas of wearing uniforms. Also, selecting the styles, colors and patterns of uniforms may be a hot subjects among students.

In fact, there are more and more schools in America start to take the measures of wearing school uniforms.

“A shirt, tie and blazer may not be the ingredients for my favorite outfit, but if I were given the choice, I wouldn't throw away the idea of school uniform.” Said Chloe Spencer, a 15-year-old American student.

Claire Howlette, an English teacher, agrees: "Uniforms give students a sense of belonging to a particular school and create an identity for the school in the community."

  1. your short drama is very interesting and to the point. i do agree that it would cause meaningless competition and even bullies if students start wearing their clothes to school. However, let us think of this question from a different aspect. uniforms also need money to buy, and they cost much to children who are not from a very generous family. Would buying a set of appropriate uniforms, including summer and winter clothes, become another kind of burden to parents? And if children wear unclean or worn-out uniforms, would it become the reason for them to be discriminated?

  3. I totally agree with your point about the difference on economical condition of families. Especially, girls really care about their appearance, so they would try to look their best when they go to school, a place full of their peers. Showing off their new clothing will be a bad phenomenon because there are those who can barely pay their lunch, but they will want to buy new clothes just to fit in. I think you made your point pretty clear.

  5. Your short "talk show" with Perli is enchating and vivid. It really tell me the benefit to wear uniform. Besides most of your example really support your idea. But for my own experience, I can't fully agree to the example" uniform save money." In my high school some of our uniform is actually expensive and hard to maintain.

  6. You presented your point clear, and the show was cute. Although I don't think wearing uniform is necessary, I still feel that your points are persuasive. However, what if the student is not proud of his/her school? Maybe he/she might feel uncomfortable when walking on the street in a uniform.

  7. I think wearing uniform is a good way to prevent bully or comparing dressing among classmates which you two just showed during your interesting short drama. And wearing uniform can remind students of his or her identity as a student and thus students would probably behave more cautiously. However, even though i agree with you that students should wear uniform, i would like to ask you that if your uniform is ugly, would you still stick to your position that students should wear uniform? Can you endure the bad-looking uniform?

  8. The funny short drama really draws everyone's attention. And your point and statement are clear and convincing. I agree with you that students should wear uniforms. Here is my question. Are college students included in your research? Or your just refer to all the students? Because I think that college students are mature enough to take part-time jobs and can use their money on whatever they want. Maybe you can clarify the objects you focus on.
