Today, we are
going to talk about the topic “Should students wear uniforms? ” And we will
mention it especially in high schools. And I’m the one who support the idea of
wearing uniforms. In the school’s opinions, they might think that wearing
uniforms create a good atmosphere for learning. Also, some students view uniforms
as the work clothes so they will take schools more seriously when they wear uniforms.
Also, it’s a symbol of unity and pride. Some schools will design the uniforms
to express their school spirits in styles or colors. In students’ opinions,
they will think that uniforms make them look equal and break down the barrier
of students because some family has more money that they buy expensive clothes
to wear. And some students have low-fashion in wearing clothes. Maybe they will
be bullied or mocked at. We will show you the situation.
Perlie: Oh Joanne, your cloth looks so
beautiful! Where did you get it?
Joanne: I think it is fashion. I bought it
in Sogo just for 5000 dollars.
Perlie: Oh so good!
Joanne: And when did you buy your pants?
Perlie: Actually, I bought it in
traditional market last night.
Joanne: Oh really? I think your flowers are
so ugly.
Perlie: But my mom bought it for me and it
only costs her 99 dollars.
Joanne: Oh maybe you won’t have friends
wearing this pants.
Maybe some situations like that.
I think that students wearing uniforms will
behave more cautiously. If you are taking a bus and you sit on the seat that
you are not supposed to sit. With the uniforms, you will yield the seat to the
elders but if you are not wearing the uniforms, you will pretend to sleep.
Also, wearing a uniform makes students be proud of their schools and gain a
sense of security because everyone looks equal. To parents, they might think
that wearing uniforms is economical because they don’t need to spend lots of
money buying clothes for students. It’s kind of economical. Some girls in our
school will spend lots of time choosing what to wear everyday so wearing
uniforms can cut up the time for choosing. I found a news in Hungary. There were
students protesting against dress code by wearing underwear…just everyone wore
underwear to the courses like this course. They want to show that they don’t
want to obey the dress code. But, in that case, I think dress code is a
necessary norm in our society because not only students…if you go to work,
dress code is important, too because it’s kind of showing your attitude to
class or to work. And wearing appropriately makes people fit the society and they
can identify their roles in class or at work.
We know that in American early times, they
didn’t take the measures of wearing uniforms because they think that wearing
uniforms violate the spirits of freedom. But, now, actually, more and more
American schools accept the idea of wearing uniforms. One reason is economic
depression that makes them adopt this measure.
Students might think that it is very interesting because they can think
of the styles and create or design what they want to wear. One of American
girls, 15 year-old, thinks that wearing a tie or skirt may not be the
ingredients of her favorable outfits but if she is given a choice, she will not
throw away the idea of wearing uniforms because she kind of likes it.
